Under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah and Chairman of the Fujairah Environment Authority’s Board of Directors, the Authority has initiated a series of books focusing on the natural history of Fujairah.

The collection will consist of seven volumes, commencing with the inaugural title “The Natural History of Fujairah“. This was announced at a recent press conference held at the Al Bahar Hotel Resort in Fujairah.

Aseela Moalla, the Director of the Fujairah Environment Authority, explained that the first book serves as an extensive guide to the emirate’s environmental aspects. The publication dates for the subsequent books will be revealed in due course. These forthcoming titles include: “Archeology of Fujairah”, “Whales and Dolphins in Fujairah”, “Plants in Fujairah”, “Birds in Fujairah”, “Reptiles in Fujairah”, and “Geology of Fujairah”.

Moalla highlighted that the series is a significant resource featuring both written and video content, beneficial for researchers, specialists, students, and anyone interested in Fujairah’s natural history. It documents the emirate’s evolutionary changes and aims to promote awareness about the significance of protecting nature, the environment, and its ability to adapt to potential threats and changes. The series also encourages a commitment to maintaining ecological balance.

Archaeologist and co-author Dr. Michele C. Ziolkowski mentioned that “The Natural History of Fujairah” encompasses the region’s marine and terrestrial wildlife, its environment, and the historical and contemporary human impacts on nature. The book also portrays the emirate’s dynamic landscape and varied natural sites. Ziolkowski noted that the book is a collaborative effort of 16 experts from different fields, making it a key reference for professionals, academics, and the wider community.

The late historian and researcher Peter Hellyer, editor Balazs Buzas, Dr. Michele C. Ziolkowski, along with various experts, researchers, and photographers from individual and governmental entities in Fujairah, have contributed to the creation and editing of “The Natural History of Fujairah”.

This series represents the first environmental and archaeological compendium for the Emirate of Fujairah, developed based on specialized studies and research, some of which are being published for the first time. The series is a significant contribution to the emirate’s environmental preservation efforts and its commitment to enhancing community awareness about environmental conservation and the sustainability of natural resources.
