Fujairah Chamber of Commerce seeks to enhance economic and logistical cooperation with Uganda
His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasized the importance of strengthening economic and trade cooperation with Uganda. He noted that the Emirate of Fujairah is not merely a market for Ugandan companies, but also serves as a key strategic gateway to the markets of the Arabian Gulf region.
Al Yamahi made the remarks during a meeting with Her Excellency Zaki Wanume Kibedi, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the UAE, and her accompanying delegation at the Chamber’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by several members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and Sultan Juma Al Hindasi, Director General of the Chamber.
The two sides discussed prospects for expanding economic cooperation between Fujairah and Uganda, which has witnessed significant growth in recent years as a result of joint efforts by both sides. This cooperation has contributed to the establishment of high-quality investment partnerships in several sectors, including logistics, rocks and mining, with a particular focus on creating added value from minerals rather than simply extracting them.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of intensifying joint efforts and developing innovative initiatives aimed at establishing an effective economic partnership and expanding communication channels between the business communities of Fujairah and Uganda.
Al Yamahi revealed that the Chamber is seeking to establish an integrated logistics corridor in the future to facilitate the flow of Ugandan agricultural products and coffee to the UAE, while enabling Emirati products to reach the Ugandan market. He affirmed the Chamber’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities and support to ensure the success of these partnerships.
The meeting also reviewed attractive investment opportunities available to both sides and highlighted the growth of joint Ugandan investments with the UAE, which have reached US$3 billion, driven by a notable increase in employment and investment activity.
The two sides also discussed cooperation in organizing the UAE-Uganda Forum, scheduled to take place in October. The Fujairah Chamber confirmed its readiness to coordinate in advance with the relevant economic authorities in Fujairah to help ensure the forum’s success.
The forum will focus on key sectors including agriculture, tourism, science and innovation, energy, and education.
For his part, Sultan Juma Al Hindasi, Director General of the Fujairah Chamber, stressed the importance of accelerating the signing of a formal cooperation agreement between the Fujairah Chamber and the Ugandan Chamber of Commerce. Such an agreement would provide a framework for joint efforts, facilitate support for Ugandan companies, and help build sustainable investment partnerships and constructive economic relations between the business communities of the two countries.
