Emirates Nature-WWF at Cop28

COP28 began with a landmark agreement on the Loss & Damage Fund on the first day of the conference itself. The conference concluded with a historic achievement as well, with parties agreeing to transition away from fossil fuels.

The conference marks a turning point for nature and climate. Over the past year, discussions on climate (mitigation, adaptation and resilience), nature (protection and restoration), sustainability, and financing took centre stage across public and private sectors – and even amongst civil society, youth, and local communities.

Domestically, stakeholders have actively raised awareness, implemented bold measures, and integrated nature into decision-making, marking the Year of Sustainability and COP28 with significant momentum for people and planet.

The UAE demonstrated strong leadership and steadfast commitment to climate action, launching multiple high-level pledges, declarations and partnerships addressing key issues at the intersection of climate, nature and well-being.

As a leading environmental charity in the UAE, Emirates Nature-WWF hosted multiple events across the Blue Zone and Green Zone at COP28 to not only showcase our climate and conservation projects and launch new ground-breaking initiatives, but also to garner further support to scale up high-impact conservation in the UAE.

We were also honoured to participate in high-level and ministerial events organized by the COP28 Presidency as well as thought-provoking sessions and launches organized by our partners and collaborators.

In the Green Zone, which is open to all visitors to COP28, we raised awareness around the importance of nature and Nature-based Solutions through immersive activations including the mangrove-themed Escape Room, the edutainment-style urban biodiversity hunt Bio Blitz, and the hands-on Gift for Nature planting engagement. These events received tremendous footfall, with over 2000participants in attendance – a testament to the community’s desire to be part of the implementation of green solutions across the country.
