Fujairah Grand Sumobot Championship Kicks Off on January 27th
Fujairah Scientific Club has announced the launch of the third edition of the Fujairah Grand Sumobot Championship, set to commence on Tuesday, January 27th, and run for two days at Fujairah Mall. The championship will see the participation of students from schools and educational institutions across the emirate.
The announcement was made during a press conference held by the club, where it was revealed that 22 teams will compete for the top positions in a highly competitive atmosphere. The championship represents a unique opportunity to empower children to make effective use of modern technology through fair competition, while developing their skills in programming robots to compete in matches throughout the tournament.
Dr. Saif Al Muailli, Director of Fujairah Scientific Club, emphasized the importance of the championship, noting the increase in the number of participating teams compared to the previous edition. He described this growth as a positive indicator of the club’s strategic objectives to promote technological awareness within the community. He also highlighted the club’s commitment to implementing intensive training and qualification programs for participating teams in preparation for the championship, in addition to coordinating with judging, technical, and volunteer committees to ensure full readiness for the event’s success.
Al Muailli added that what distinguishes this edition is the introduction of an innovative mechanism involving live broadcast coverage of the competitions using “VAR” technology, allowing officials to review previous footage to monitor any violations or misconduct during matches. This step aims to enhance the quality of officiating while ensuring transparency and credibility, and is considered an exceptional move toward improving the game and benefiting from modern technologies.
He further noted that through the championship, the club seeks to identify the best players, nurture and develop their talents, and involve them in competitions organized by the Arab Robotics Association in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
It is worth mentioning that the Sumobot game involves competition between two teams, each operating a robot on a circular platform, with the objective of pushing the opponent’s robot out of the arena to win. Success depends on the robot’s design and programming method, while a set of regulations is applied to ensure equal opportunities, device safety, and the prevention of tampering.
