The 12th Fujairah Open International Taekwondo Championship concluded in spectacular fashion, showcasing an electrifying display of skill, determination, and fierce competition.
This prestigious G2 championship, hosted by the Fujairah Martial Arts Club at the Zayed Sports Complex, made history by securing a Guinness World Record, drawing an unprecedented 2,600 athletes. Among them were 10 elite competitors who have graced multiple Olympic Games, including the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The tournament witnessed some of the fiercest battles in its history, with Olympic medalists pushing their limits on the grand stage. One of the most unforgettable moments came in the women’s final, where Nastaran Valizadeh stunned reigning Olympic champion Viviana Marton of Hungary in a gripping showdown that will be remembered for years.
“Competing in Fujairah for the first time has been an incredible experience! I truly admire the spirit of these competitions—the impeccable organization, the electrifying atmosphere, and the sheer level of skill on display,” said Marton.
“Every match is a true test of endurance and determination. Not everyone can claim victory every day, as this is an immensely tough competition, but that’s what makes it so thrilling. Each challenge is an opportunity to grow, to learn, and to come back even stronger.”
Another defining moment of the championship was the remarkable victory of Dunya Abutaleb in the women’s -53kg category. A trailblazer in her own right, Abutaleb made history as the first Saudi woman to qualify for the Olympic Games on her own merit. In Fujairah, she embodied the essence of perseverance and resilience.
Her final bout was a dramatic and emotionally charged rematch against Iran’s Mobina Nematzadeh, the very opponent who had denied her a podium finish at the Paris 2024 Olympics. This time, driven by the desire for redemption, Abutaleb delivered a masterclass in skill and determination, overpowering Nematzadeh to avenge her previous loss. Her triumph was more than just a title win—it was a testament to the spirit of champions who rise, learn, and return even stronger.
With record-breaking participation and unforgettable performances, the 12th Fujairah Open has once again proven itself as a battleground where only the most relentless warriors emerge victorious.
