Fujairah Crown Prince Receives UAE Chess Federation President, Supports Chess in Schools

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, received His Excellency Taryam Matar Taryam, President of the UAE Chess Federation, at the Emiri Court.
The meeting focused on a national initiative to promote chess in schools, with discussions covering implementation phases, international best practices, and partnerships to integrate chess into educational curricula—especiallythrough teacher training and student development.
His Highness emphasized the value of mind sports, particularly chess, in building critical thinking and analytical skills, aligning with national goals to develop talent capable of representing the UAE globally. He also highlighted the continued support of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, for cultural and sporting initiatives aimed at fostering a creative, competitive generation.
HE Taryam outlined the Federation’s efforts to qualify educators through specialized programs such as the “Chess Teacher Course” and “Chess Referee Course,” aimed at embedding a strong chess culture in schools.
The Crown Prince praised the Federation’s initiatives and stressed the importance of identifying and nurturing young talent. In response, HE Taryam expressed gratitude for the Crown Prince’s support and reaffirmed the Federation’s commitment to excellence in chess locally and internationally.
Also in attendance were Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Crown Prince’s Office, Abdul Karim Hassan Al Marzouqi, Secretary-General of the UAE Chess Federation, and several Federation board members.
