A record of 60,310 Muslims in Abu Dhabi gathered at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque on the 27th night of Ramadan to observe Laylat Al Qadr, a significant night in the Islamic faith.
Since the grand mosque opened, this is its largest crowd of worshippers.
It is believed that Laylat Al Qadr, or the Night of Destiny in English, was the night when the first verse of the Holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The exact date of Laylat Al Qadr is unknown, but it is believed to fall on one of the last ten nights of Ramadan.
Approximately 23,552 worshippers attended Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain on the same night, of whom 2,402 prayed Al Isha and Tarawih. Additionally, 21,150 people offered the Tahajjud prayer.
It is estimated that 5,239 worshipers attended the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah, of whom 1,382 performed Al Isha and Tarawih, and 3,857 performed Tahajjud.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has allocated 6,579 parking spaces for worshippers, including 1,500 spaces for women and 60 spaces for people of determination, in addition to the mosque’s interior and external parking spaces.
